Rosi Golan makes an immediate impression with her lyrics and with the magnitude of her voice. Accompanied by Jake Phillips, the pair was the Saturday night opening act at The Wormhole. Golan’s voice speaks for itself, it is bold and infectious. Her melodies keep an audience spellbound and engaged in her world. She is an Isreali born artist now living in Brooklyn. Many of her songs are inspired by her travels. Her album “The Drifter & the Gypsy” was released in 2008, and she is currently working on a new EP.
Luring and haunting with her voice, Golan created a melodic and poetic evening.
William Fitzsimmons, the main act, is an unusual musician. His website informs potential fans “if you are looking for sad shit, check out my music.” He sports a pleasantly large beard that is a cross between that of Walt Whitman, Sam Beam and Ray Lamontague. He is witty, brilliant and quite comfortable in his own skin.
“This is a happy tune I wrote about death, its called Funeral Dress,” he laughed.
His songs tackle a lot of difficult, but not unfamiliar subjects: love, divorce, death and more. Fitzsimmons views his music not as just a performance, entertaining people, but hopes to share his love of life and to ignite something within people.

Golan and Fitzsimmons performed duets to “I Don’t feel it anymore”, “Hazy” and others. The venue was full of adoring listeners, hanging on every word. A crowd of people sat on the floor in front of the stage, something I have never witnessed at Wormhole. It was a rich and heartfelt performance, I wish that I could have curled up and listened to them all night long.
After the show, I had the chance to chat separately with Golan and Fitzsimmons. The two artists met a few years ago whilst working with the same producer. They both have a calm, soothing aura and it was fun to see how they complement each other off-stage.
It’s exciting to see such amazing talents stopping through Savannah. The night with Golan and Fitzsimmons has been haunting me for the last two days as I keep replaying the event in my head.
